Regional Conference Baden-Württemberg: Recognising and jointly promoting informal competences (05.11.2021, online)

Further education and lifelong learning are becoming increasingly important in our society. The requirements for employees at all levels of qualification are constantly being expanded and changed, and informal competences are often of increasing importance in addition to formal qualifications.

With the project "Upskilling4all", Baden-Württemberg has set itself the goal of recording and specifically promoting precisely these competences and qualities.Practical examples of the "Upskilling4all" project were presented at the regional conference.

The State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in Baden-Württemberg, Mr. Volker Schebesta, opened the event with greetings to the participants and explained the central idea of the project: With the help of the project, project partners are to use a wide variety of access points to bring continuing education offers to the target groups. The aim is to improve social participation and strengthen professional perspectives. Dr. Klaus Vogt, Chairman of the Kolping Bildungswerk Württemberg e.V., then referred to the rapidly changing requirements in the context of digitalisation. According to Dr. Vogt, hurdles must be lowered and measures created to enable lifelong learning.

The welcome was followed by the scientific input of Prof. Peter Dehnbostel - His message: Upskilling Pathways enable a new perspective on vocational education and training - Strengthening the view on the informal sector, where competence development often takes place.
During the event, the project was placed in the context of recent developments in the field of recognition of informally acquired competences and the European agenda for adult learning.

Overall, experiences and findings were discussed and an exchange on opportunities and challenges for continuing education took place. The panel discussion and the workshops gave the participants the opportunity to look at the topic of the event from a practical perspective and thus to take away insights for their own educational work.
